New Gallery Opens with SC Chamber Ribbon Cutting
New Contemporary Art Gallery Opens In Seneca Falls
Roberta Estes announced the opening of a new art gallery: the R Dixon Gallery, located at 102 Fall Street in the historic downtown district of Seneca Falls. The gallery will exhibit contemporary art that highlights unique and thought-provoking creative expression. The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an upcoming Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for R Dixon Gallery on Thursday, May 14 at 5:00 pm, which is free and open to the public.
The gallery’s online presence and physical location will serve to increase exposure for mid-career and emerging artists. Artists will be invited to submit their work for inclusion in competitions and themed exhibits. In a nod to Seneca Falls’ history, the first juried competition focuses on women. Titled, “By and About Women: celebrating the female spirit,” the exhibit is accepting online submissions through May 10 and will open on June 3.
“Being downtown, on Fall Street, is a great location for an art gallery. I envision Seneca Falls as both a historic and cultural destination. There are a number of galleries already in the area, and a nice synergy is developing with the wine trail” stated Roberta Estes, owner of R Dixon Gallery.
Estes is originally from the New York City area and is both the director of the gallery and an artist herself. Signing her art as R Dixon, she is an abstract painter whose work has been included in numerous group and solo shows. Estes said that she found her creative voice later in life, after a successful career in publishing, when an unexpected event led to what she calls an “artistic awakening that embraced visual expression.”
The exhibit opening on May 15: “Wall Candy,” features abstract paintings by Roberta Dixon. Future exhibits will consist of juried collections submitted from artists across the United States.
