Buttonwood Grove Winery

David and Melissa Pittard always planned to return to Upstate New York and fulfilltheir lifelong passion for wine and agriculture. In May of 2014, with the retirement of Buttonwood Grove owners Ken and Diane Riemer, that dream became a reality.

“I grew up working on my family’s apple farm, acknowledged Dave Pittard, a farm that has been in my family since 1911. Growing up I enjoyed seeing the pride my father and grandfather had as they shared their apples and cider with customers. Thus, the influence of these special people created my love for agriculture and the desire to be a part of it.”

“When my wife Melissa and I found Buttonwood Grove we felt the same wayabout the quality grapes and wine.  We are fortunate to have taken over this business from Diane and Ken Riemer; we are honored to be able to carry on their tradition.”

“Melissa, my wife, our 11 month old son Skiff, and I are excited to share the Buttonwood Grove experience with new and old friends!  The quality of the wines in the Finger Lakes is continuing to excite new people and we are excited to be a part of this growth.”

David and Melissa both grew up 35 minutes away from Buttonwood Grove, inSkaneateles, NY. David had inherited a passion for agriculture from an early age, growing up working at Beak & Skiff Apple Farm in Lafayette, NY. Working in the orchard, taught David how to care for the natural resources of the land, and gave him his first introduction to wine-making, and producing apple based wines, vodka and cider. Quickly realizing his true passion, David went on to attend Cornell College of Agriculture.

With the hard work and dedication of the original owners, Buttonwood Grovewinery has established a reputation for producing some of the most memorable wines in the Finger Lakes, as well as hosting exceptional events on their beautifully landscaped grounds. The popular Friday night band series, “Buttonwood Deck Party”, will continue throughout the season every other week. The complete schedule can be seen atwww.buttonwoodgrove.com. Other upcoming events include Sunflower Daze on August 16th, Early Fall Foliage Festival on September 20th, and the Annual Harvest Festival on October 25th.

Going forward, the Pittards plan to uphold the work of the Riemers while puttingtheir own unique stamp on the property. Recent additions include the introduction of the 1911 line of hard ciders, and a wider assortment of local artisan foods, as well as weekly wine and food pairings. Dave and Melissa feel that a visit to Buttonwood Grove should be more than just a wine tasting, it should be an overall experience of all that the Finger Lakes has to offer – sweeping views, relaxed conversation with knowledgeable staff, enjoying a cheese platter and glass of wine on the deck, visiting with the farm animals, and even a short scenic walk to Buttonwood Falls. A very popular feature at Buttonwood Grove is the four vacation rental log cabins nestled in the woods. Each cabin accommodates four people, has a full bath, microwave and mini fridge, heat, air conditioning, and a fire pit. Come for an hour, or stay with us for a few days – either way, Dave and Melissa, along with the friendly Buttonwood staff, can’t wait to meet you!
